Ricky Gervais began last night’s Golden Globes ceremony by warning actors against using their speeches to talk politics. But Joaquin Phoenix did just that when he accepted Best Actor for his critically acclaimed performance in Todd Phillips’ Joker.
The biggest names in Hollywood looked nervous as Phoenix addressed the current climate crisis. “Contrary to popular belief I don’t want to rock the boat. The boat is fucking rocked,” he said before encouraging his fellow millionaires to consider the environment more. “We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs … I’ll try to do better, and I hope you will too.”
While his praise for the ceremony’s plant-based catering was well-received, audience members appeared to shift in their seats when Phoenix suggested that voting and well wishes were not enough. He suggested, “we have to take responsibility ourselves and make changes and sacrifices.”
Unfortunately, his proposition was not met with applause and Twitter was quick to pick up on the awkwardness.

Harry Styles has dropped a new video for “Golden,” the fifth single from his 2019 Fine Line album.
As the title suggests, it’s an upbeat track with a catchy melody that serves as an uplifting antidote to the rest of the news cycle right now. It’s pop music functioning how it’s designed to, and the accompanying video is just as joyful. Not least in the fits department.
We see Styles running, driving, and swimming gleefully through the Italian Amalfi Coast, where naturally, the singer’s stylist Harry Lambert has provided an assembly of enviable, summery pieces. Anyone following Styles’ fashion trajectory from his early 1D era of black skinny jeans to his pussy-bow blouse ensemble at the Met Gala will know that he is obsessed, in a mutually reciprocated way, with Gucci, so let’s begin to break down the look from there.
The hero outfit of the video is the custom robin egg blue double-breasted blazer, worn under a blue/white striped Oxford shirt with plaid pants from Gucci’s Resort ’21 collection. Pairing low and high, Styles comes through with his own scruffy pink Vans that sport alternating laces. It’s Milanese atelier up top, skater_aesthetic.jpeg on the bottom. To accessorize, he opts for a customized “GOLDEN” necklace from Eilou, and a pair of crochet racing gloves, also from Gucci.
It’s not all glamorous designer labels, though. For the running segment of the video, Styles wears an oversized, white pleat-fronted shirt and peacock feather fruit hat from London-based designer S.S.Daley’s FW20 collection. These are paired with some faded graphic, feed sack-inspired shorts from Bode. This is probably the most wearable fit of the lot – and while no-one’s really planning trips to the Italian coast right now, it would be a cozy set up to lounge around the house in.
Lastly is a look that was impactful enough to land on the single’s cover art: a combination of extremely wide-set pants (also from S.S.Daley) paired with a yellow rain hat that is seasonally inappropriate for southern Italy, but a good vibe all the same.
